Just a couple of weeks ago I was lucky to be working on the make-up for the truly inspirational Tilly Lockey, who some of you might know better as ‘The Bionic Girl’. At just 15 Tilly is storming the internet with her fun engaging online content, powerful messages and fashion forward looks, often with her bionic arms proudly on display for the world to marvel at.
At the age of just 15 months Tilly contracted meningitis and was told she would be unlikely to survive. Instead this powerhouse of a young woman has beaten the rule book and today Tilly is here with us and taking her lifes challenges in her stride to full her with what I can only describe as a total zest for life! On set she was such a delight to work with and I felt I could take away some wisdom from having been able to experience her determined yet caring and incredibly self aware personality first hand.
She is an ambassador and spokesperson for Open Bionics, an incredible company who have provided her with the most advanced bionics developed here in the uk, the Hero Arms. These arms are a truly astounding piece of modern technology that open up an entirely new lease of life to their users. Tilly can do just about what any other 15 year old would like to do, like experimenting with make-up and hair styles or video gaming, what ever she fancies the world is her oyster thanks to these arms. The custom covers like Tilly’s amazing bejewelled pair she donned for this shoot are just an added bonus!
The work from this shoot isn’t out yet but I couldn’t wait to share it with you, which is why I’m here posting a few behind the scenes snaps from the day to tell you all about Tilly and the great team on board too. Not to forget of course the make-up! Working with Tilly I used Chanel and SUQQU to create some fresh, fun and full of radiance looks that could match her cool style. On these shots in particular I used my Chanel products to get this bright and dewy skin which featured the perfect bold red lip to really pop against Tilly’s monochrome outfit and sparkling arms. I can’t wait to see the final results in print that will feature more of the SUQQU make-up too, keep watching this space!
