One aspect of my career as a make-up artist is that you never really know what job you're going to get booked for and where you'll be spending your time. One of my latest jobs just before christmas was working with the formidable Amanda Owen. More famously known as the Yorkshire Shepherdess who has found adoration from many watchers of her reality tv show Our Yorkshire Farm, which follows the lives of her, her husband and their 9 children. Being an avid lover of the show and fellow hardworking strong women, it's the least to say I was excited to head to the farm and meet Amanda!
When I arrived...
I have had so many proud moments in my career but this has well and truly hit the top of my list. Over the years I have used and adored Soap Brow whilst I watched West Barn Co, the family run business that produces it, grow from strength to strength. They have really come into their own with some brilliant products for both professional make-up artists and everyday consumers who just love make-up!
For this shoot I was hired by WBCo as they wanted to update their website and social media with some new and exciting products which will be launching soon. Being part of this team and this...
This week's blog is something super fun, it's so cool to look back over at the final product now it's been released. Recently I joined the team over at END. for a shoot paying homage to the phoenix-like resurgence of the OG Nike Dunk throughout 2020.
They've opted to use a yearbook style format to cast each pair in a manner that emulates the varisty nostalgia they so deserve as the 'Class of 2020'. After all 35 years in the making this franchise is still going from strength to strength continuing its legacy and the rich culture behind them. For me my task was to work along side the production...
News flash guys and girls! You may or may not know that I have another website. Whilst here on Make-up By Jo I do talk about all sorts, the main focus is for weddings. On the other hand my other website Jo Leversuch has it's focus on all my beauty, editorial, advertising and music work and clientele.
In light of making the most of the additional time at home during 2020's numerous lockdowns, quarantines and such it was time for me to update my look over at Jo Leversuch. With a totally new logo, website, social media plan and business cards all to reflect my style, creativity and my vision within...
After dipping into my new Delilah Cosmetics goodies the week before for my first shoot with Roxoa for QP Jewellers I was super excited to use Delilah again for our second shoot with Scarlet Ocean. I remember spying in the package the perfect red for this Christmas themed shoot, what's a better festive make-up statement than rocking a bold red lip in December to get you in the celebratory spirit.
Perfectly named floozy, it oozes fun and confidence that's packed with pigment which is true to colour to match your favourite Christmas decs and give rudolph a run for his money. I love the way these...

If you were paying attention on my last blog chatting about the beautifully creamy Jillian Dempsey Lip and Cheek Tints, then you may have spyed my new favourite jumper from Jumper Gang. Well if you didn't you totally should head over there right now to check out that glowy goodness, otherwise lucky for you I am here to share the details about these super cosy jumpers.
This jumper was the brain child of Emily Radjen, a fellow make-up artist and working in theatre and ballet with the likes of the highly acclaimed Matthew Bourne. Due to the Covid pandemic there have been a multitude of restrictions...
As a make-up artist and all around lover of cream textures on the skin I have been on the quest to find the perfect cream based shade of burgundy. On my hunt high and low to find something to replace my sadly discontinued favourite Bobbi Brown shade, I came across Jillian Dempsey. I was lucky enough that they sent me over a selection of their lid and cheek tints to try my hand at not only for myself but as I am always looking for new exciting additions to pop in my work kit for my upcoming projects.
As you may know by now I often like to get my hands involved when applying make-up,...
It's so great to already have work coming out that I've been part of post Lockdown no 1, it was safe to say I was raring to get started on this shoot that was booked in just as work opened back up again for MUA's. So to now see the final results in the limelight is such a proud moment and a reminder to keep me going through the potential woes of lockdown no 2 whilst we figure out how that affects work again. Anyway focusing on something beautiful to uplift the spirits is always a welcome distraction from 2020, so here's my latest work on the QP Jewellers photo shoot for their Autumn Winter 2020...
Dook Soaps
In my downtime lately I've been doing lots of research on my new business venture Untitled No 1, trying to make the most of all the time at home and turn it into something positive. There will be more on my new venture in due course that I can't wait to share with you.
Until then I want to show you some of the lovely brands I have come across just like Dook Soaps; everything about them captivated me and I knew I had to try them! Did you know about the word 'Dook' and what it means?
Dook is a small independent company based in Edinburgh who are proud to approach the beauty...
