A few weeks ago I had a phone call out the blue from Jen and Hils who were getting married in April 2014 at Middleton Lodge as they wanted to have their make-up applied on their wedding day. I had met Jen and her partner Hils the year prior at a wedding fayre at Middleton Lodge.

In April 2014 the law had changed for same sex couples and now they had the chance to change from civil ceremony wedding to actually getting married on their wedding day. I am not sure but I think Jen and Hils were the first same sex couple to get married in North Yorkshire on 9th April 2014.

Due to the time scale we quickly arranged to meet up for the trial for both Jen and Hils to have their make-up applied. I got to see a sneaky peek of their wedding dresses and discuss their ideas on how their wedding day is going to be styled.

My ethos for weddings is that everyone is an individual and each person have their own concerns and aspirations on how they want to look.

On the wedding morning I arrived at one of my favourite locations to get married Middleton Lodge in North Yorkshire.

Jen with the blonde hair. Jen has gorgeous skin with a slight hint of rosacea on her cheeks and wanted her make-up to cover the redness but still leave her skin glowing. To compliment her blue eyes I used a soft peach/gold colour on ther eyelids and kept the lips natural and neutral to compliment her nude coloured wedding dress.

Hils was concerned with her skin and wanted to make sure the make-up lasted all day without her natural shine coming through. We discussed at great depth how to look after the skin and prepare the skin to make-up sure she was happy with the coverage. Hils has stunning green eyes and wanted to add some drama to the eyes with a hint of “smoky eyes’ with more added drama of black eyeliner. Again to compliment the softness of her smoky eyes I kept the lips natural.
