If we cast our minds back to this time last year, for a lot of us our lives and news headlines were filled with worry about trying to access groceries as COVID 19 panic buying cleared our supermarket shelves. For the people of Newcastle a lifeline of that moment were their local traders of the legendary 200 year old Grainger Market. Traders met with their own troubles of how to have their businesses endure a global pandemic, had to find a solution quick, thus the mutually beneficial delivery service was born. The traders stepped up to keep the public safe and fed whilst in turn they were able to still make a living in what has been one of the toughest periods for small business in recent history.
A year on and the delivery service is still going strong, having evolved from an essential emergency system to a thriving and organised online platform for a plethora of goods, you can go check it out at graingerdelivery.com. To celebrate Chronicle Live and The Mirror have featured the wonderful Grainger Market online service in articles where you can hear more about it from the traders themselves including a lovely video. It was an absolute pleasure to be on set getting all of the hard working small business owners photo ready for their well deserved article feature. It was a super busy day with plenty of faces to touch up and ensure they are looking the best that they deserve, but all worth it to be part of shining this spotlight on them!
