What would it mean to you to back beauty? Usually the answer might be going to your local beauty salon for a treatment, to hire a make-up artist for an event, maybe it'd be to go get some advice from your nearest beauty counter and buy a few bits while you're there or perhaps it would even be hiring us for commercial work. Due to governmental restrictions after COVID 19, none of that is happening right now and the people in the industry are suffering.
Enter Caroline Hirons, our beacon of light in this really uncertain time for the beauty community. Famously known for her incredible skincare expertise...
After what has felt like a really tough couple months work wise it's been a real treat to start to see things looking up, as of August the 1st I can finally get back to work and doing what I love! Albeit safely and with guidelines, I'll take it right now. I'm happy to toe the line for the safety of the country and am grateful for so much but it has been hard watching so many similar industries go back before make-up could! In this time it's been really special to see creatives banding together to take care of and uplift one and other to get through it all. Just recently Belle Bridal were the one's...
It's a bit of a diversion from the usual make-up and skincare chat today but I wanted share with you my dear friend Kate Chaytor Norris and her wonderful new book I Wish My Doctor Had Told Me This. In my line of work it may be a lot to do with artistic expression and creativity, but it's also about making people feel their best and most authentic selves. This book is just another path of that same notion, all be it a more literal one - about feeling good within our health. After personal experience on working with Kate to improve my own health and lifestyle, I couldn't be happier to share her work...
One of the main reasons I really love what I do for a living is the people that I meet. Amongst both the people hiring and working for this industry there are so many truly epic creatives that I am so grateful to have worked with. My make-up journey is filled with talented and inspiring people that I want to share with everyone I meet.
Talk Like Tigers
At the top of my list of fabulous creative people are two sisters Charlotte and Stephanie, better know in the musical world as Talk Like Tigers, who you absolutely must check out. If creativity and sass were people, Talk Like Tigers would be their...
After a suprise proposal at Middleton Lodge it was only right that on 12th of July 2019 Helen and Jo returned for their fabulous wedding reception after a traditional church ceremony at the nearby St Michael & All Angels in Middleton Tyas. These pictures by MIKI Photo + Film Studio really capture the essence of the exact day they wanted, a relaxed but elegant and traditional british summer wedding with minimalistic yet sophisticated decor using a white palette with hints of orange and fuschia florals.
For Helen's make-up we wanted a timeless glam that complimented the gorgeous styling...
After these few months I definitely think I'm starting to get into the swing of this virtual work life we now all know, so I wanted to share with you my latest creative work. Thanks to another online shoot via video call with the brilliant Malorie Shmyr this time we worked on expressing these virtual connections. The final piece, a moving image Malorie filmed and collated beautifully, is our artistic representation of both the beauty and the struggles of trying to connect through a screen.
Both Malorie and I love the use of bold colour, especially gold, so with this in mind we opted...
Having a bit more time to myself thanks to this lockdown means I’ve been looking for lots of ways to keep productive. Between all the other virtual projects I’ve worked on I’ve also been productively digging through my skin care and make-up supplies to try some things I had never got round to before.
Not only is skincare a fundamental part of self-care, but it can also make or break a make-up look so it’s so important to me to find the right products for me and my clients. Whilst I’m pretty happy with my ZO Skin Health routine, it might not be everyone’s cup of tea so it’s good to branch...
My Home Life
There’s no doubt in my mind that we will all remember 2020 as a year when we all had to learn, adapt, accept a new way of life. Covid19 has affected each and every home across the world with devastating effects on each and every one. From various mental health implications and anxieties, general life adjustments to serious economics issues and most of all the uncertainties of what the future will hold for us all.
As a makeup artist my working world has been tipped completely upside down. My usual role is to be with my lovely clients creating beautiful looks whilst at a very close...
Showcasing Avon's Distillery Range at the Northern Wedding Show
Late last year I was asked to head up a make-up team for the latest Northern Wedding Show by Belle Bridal. This year's partner for the show and demonstrations was Avon. They might not be everyone's first thought when it comes to bridal make-up, but with their new range Distillery it would be an oversight not to consider them for your big day's look. Distillery is all about clean living, creating beautiful products with out compromising the planet with their vegan ingredients, ethical mindset and eco conscious packaging choices. With...
Whilst keeping inspired looking back on last years weddings and reminding myself of the beautiful days to come again, photographer Jo Bradbury was kind enough to share with me some of the beautiful shots she took from Faye and Adam's big day in 2019.
If you're looking for some serious floral envy and inspiration you're in for a treat with this one. With cottage garden blooms adorning every chair, stairway, door and tabletop as well as the gorgeous hair pieces and bouquets you will get your botanical fix from this wedding. The arrangements all by Picked At Dawn perfectly complimented the natural...
