Having a bit more time to myself thanks to this lockdown means I’ve been looking for lots of ways to keep productive. Between all the other virtual projects I’ve worked on I’ve also been productively digging through my skin care and make-up supplies to try some things I had never got round to before.
Not only is skincare a fundamental part of self-care, but it can also make or break a make-up look so it’s so important to me to find the right products for me and my clients. Whilst I’m pretty happy with my ZO Skin Health routine, it might not be everyone’s cup of tea so it’s good to branch out and have various things to recommend that have been tried and tested.
That’s why recently I picked out a new BYBI product to try (that has since changed its name, but more about that at the end!). BYBI are renowned for producing high quality products that are very environmentally conscious whilst also being 100% natural, vegan and cruelty free. Being able to get all this at a moderate price point means they tick a lot of boxes that people look for in their skincare purchases and are worth a try in my books! So lets get into it…
When I say prime your skin you’re probably thinking about what we all do, just make-up primer right? Wrong! Meet BYBI Prime Time, a facial polish that acts as the pre-primer-primer. It’s not as complicated as that makes it sound, it’s a really simple concept really. Considering how your skincare routine is vital to how your make-up is going to look and last, BYBI understands it’s important to have the perfect recipe ready to kick start your glam routine.
After your cleanser of choice take a dollop of this milky exfoliator mixed with a little water and let the jojoba beads do the work for you. Combined with the natural acidity from its fruity ingredients like Pineapple and Lime, it’s the perfect way to gently and naturally remove unwanted dead skin cells and promote healthy regeneration. Team all that up with the super star ingredients soothing power, Marshmallow Root brings the balance that not many exfoliators have to create a truly gentle kind to skin exfoliating experience.
Whilst that is all well and good, you do have to persevere a little to get to grips with the product. At first squeezing the product out its sleek and colourful tube is a bit tough. Then the texture of the product itself is a little tricky with figuring out the right water to product consistency to get the perfect exfoliating blend. I tend to squeeze a bit more out than is recommended on the tube with a little drop of water and find that works best for me to cover my whole face and feel the magic happening. Don’t give up, once you find the right ratio to get that luscious creamy equilibrium it’s totally worth it.
It feels gentle on the skin yet you can definitely feel the combination of the physical and chemical exfoliants sloughing the dead skin away. The use of gentle jojoba beads rather than alternative natural physical exfoliants you often find in products like this removes the risk of micro-tears that can cause damage to your skin which is great. After your routine your skin will be left feeling refreshed and the delightful scent will leave you feeling like you’re in a tropical candy shop with the aroma reminiscent of fruit salad sweets. I’ve been using it for over a week now and I’ve noticed a great improvement in my general texture of my face whilst my skin feels smooth, soft and bright. It can be tough to find good exfoliators that successfully remove dead cells without leaving the skin feeling dried out but this one hits the mark perfectly.
Top off the routine with any additional skincare and moisturisers you use and you are set for the perfect make-up base. Or if you’re really feeling the benefits it’s the perfect way to start a bare skin day, just don’t forget your SPF!
I picked up Prime Time a little while ago and am grateful for the silver linings of having time to try it now outside of my usual very busy work life. However, BYBI have since changed the product’s name and you can find it on their website as their ‘Smooth & Soothe Scrub’ for a very reasonable £24. Perhaps the name was getting people confused, after all like I said at the start we all think of one thing when we say Primer! Different name, but all the same fantastic ingredients.
