It’s been a few years since I last blogged about I’m Still Ethan, a short film I created the makeup for a few years ago, but it’s finally out! Not only was I the set MUA, but the eagle eyed amongst you will spot my brief cameo role. Having had met writer and producer Phoebe Lorenz on another film set a while before hand, she filled me in on this project and the fundraising efforts and I was immediately sold on the opportunity to be a part of it.
The makeup was minimal but complex, changing through out the film to represent part of the development of the characters along their journey. Some scenes required a perfected skinbase touch and little else for that no-makeup makeup look, whilst others got a little more playful with subtle touches of colour and flicks of eyeliner here and there! Story telling is such a multifaceted art and it was amazing to see my makeup be part of that unfolding of this sensitive but powerful topic.
A poignant piece about imprisonment, told through the perspective of a young boy whose father in unexpectedly put behind bars, I’m Still Ethan shines an important light on the experiences young children face in these traumatic situations. The official release of the award-winning piece means you can now watch on either Vimeo or on Youtube below.
Enjoy, Jo x
