The shortest day in the Northern Hemisphere has come, and as December 21st rolled around yesterday it served as a stark reminder of how we once followed the cycles of the seasons.

As many shun the coming of Winter and seek refuge in between the four walls that light up their device screens, it’s easy to see that a world rich in tech fuelled connections has left us lacking in life’s most vital component. Our connection with ourselves.

Set aside the AI prompt, mute those notifications and step into reality with me. There’s a time and place for it all, but today we’re starting a new ritual.

This is a disconnect that has been going on for too long, ingrained into our calendar by the Ancient Romans disrupting our natural cycle when they stole the New Year from the Spring, placing it instead in the dead of Winter.

But Winter is the time of year for slow, not ‘go’. So stop fighting the tired and lets lean in, take a peaceful walk in nature, a quiet evening of reset, nurture your well being and give yourself time to recharge.

For me, I keep myself aligned with what works for my body by honouring the sun and moon cycles. I love learning about how these celestial bodies can take affect on all of us, humans, animals, plants and beyond. What’s your way of rewiring your modern mindset?
