I started in the industry many years ago working for Lancome where I had an intense training course in London Head Office. My 10 year career with Lancome took me to large accounts in Edinburgh, Manchester, York and my final position before I left the company was in House of Fraser in Darlington.
Looking back at my career with Lancome I wanted to write an article about how to create the Valentine look using make-up products you can purchase from House of Fraser. I wanted to have a cross section of make-up brands which, of course, included Lancome! but from other top companies from Clarins, Guerlain...

I am thrilled to see my latest work on the front cover of a luxury magazine called La Di Da.
The shoot was arranged by myself and a talented up and coming photographer Rebecca Elizabeth Tate. We wanted to create an autumnal feel to the shoot to involve all aspects from the colour of the hair to the choice of make-up.
Hope you enjoy these images and I have given you some ideas on wearing some vibrant colours during these dreary grey winter months.
Contact me via jo@makeupbyjo.co.uk if you would like any further information on the make-up I have used.

A couple of weeks' ago I had the opportunity to work with a photographer, Tracy Kidd Photography, and really wanted to try out my Liz Earle Sheer Lip Gloss.
I normally find that lip glosses can usually leave a sticky feel on the lips and even can get stuck in long hair!!!
During the studio shoot I wanted to create a “wet look” on the lips with inspiration taken from the days of 70s disco, the famous Studio 54 to disco diva Donna Summer.
In this shoot I used the Liz Earle Sheer Lip Gloss in Water Lily number 12 and I must say this is a “must have” lip gloss to purchase to wear...
There are so many concealers on the market and we walk around the department stores and look bemused at which ones to choose…. they are either too white and chalky or too dark for the skin tone which leave the skin feeling clogged up with the make-up.
I came across a concealer by Ariane Poole whom I met many years' ago and had the good fortune that our paths crossed…. she offered to re-train me back into the industry after I left the fashion industry and has been my mentor.
You may ask who is Ariane Poole?…. Ariane is an international celebrity make-up artist who has worked with some...
As spring is in the air and April is upon us I wanted to share a small blog about hygiene for make-up brushes and expiry dates on make-up.
There are many reasons for keeping your make-up brushes clean
* removes old make-up that builds up on the brushes
* bacteria and germs that could cause skin issues and breakouts and reactions to products
* cares for the expensive make-up brushes you have made an investment in
How often should you clean your brushes ? ideally as a guideline these should be washed at least once a week in a mild shampoo. If you use alot...
Normally my blogs are written on recent weddings, make-up and fashion photo shoots.
Today i wanted to write about a product which was purchased for me as a birthday present in February. Its the Clarisonic Mia Sonic Cleansing System in Lavender for senstive skin.
I have used this product for nearly a month now and have seen a huge difference in my skin. Normally i use a muslin cleansing cloth supplied by Eve Lom as i use their Eve Lom Cleanser which for me is the best cleanser i have ever used.
I use the Eve Lom cleanser with the Clarisonic...
