As a make-up artist and all around lover of cream textures on the skin I have been on the quest to find the perfect cream based shade of burgundy. On my hunt high and low to find something to replace my sadly discontinued favourite Bobbi Brown shade, I came across Jillian Dempsey. I was lucky enough that they sent me over a selection of their lid and cheek tints to try my hand at not only for myself but as I am always looking for new exciting additions to pop in my work kit for my upcoming projects.
As you may know by now I often like to get my hands involved when applying make-up, my own especially. Sometimes the best tool you have is your own finger tips! Not only do I enjoy this technique for the natural look it produces, the control and the ease but I can also get a really good feel for the texture of a product. For the Lid Tints the texture is beautiful, some cream textures still have a powdery feel to them but you really get a genuine soft and silky application that has a dewy finish which glides on the skin perfectly. I used Ruby on the eyes and whilst it wasn’t quite the deep burgundy shade, I am glad I came across them on my search as the colours are so pretty and will certainly be handy for future work that requires this natural look.
For the Cheek Tints I honestly found the texture slightly drier and more powdery. To help with this I picked up a MYKITCO brush, which is super soft and luxurious, to get things buffed out. Whilst I am still cream texture’s #1 fan, I found it still worked really well as the slightly drier feel used with the brush adds to the more diffused look over the wider area of the cheeks. I am using the shade scarlet which is such a lovely red that I even felt inspired to tap a little on to my lip with my finger for the final look which added a nice bit of gentle colour.
As we find ourselves on a 2nd lockdown i am doing a few more zoom meetings than normal so its wonderful to apply a little make-up, but besides that I find it’s nice to freshen up my face with some colour sometimes to help stay sane in lockdown! So my thoughts that I would finish of my look with The West Barn Co’s amazing Soap Brows, their brow brush is undoubtedly the best one I’ve ever used. You really must get your hands on one.
These are really flattering shades for the ultimate cool girl effortless vibe, I would expect nothing less from Jillian Dempsey. Jillian is a renowned make-up artist from the USA whose work has been seen on the Red Carpet to front cover magazines and celebrities from Kate Winslet, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, the list goes on!
Her make-up range is all about a pop, glow and hint of colour for the eyes and cheeks and I think the products achieved exactly that in a really natural and effortless fashion whilst also feeling super comfortable to wear and easy to apply thanks to the cream textures.
The Cheek Tint blushers come in 6 shades that are velvety to touch with either the finger tips or like my choice using a soft brush to really make the skin look soft and real. You could totally build these up though for a more obvious effect.
The Lit Tint shadows come in 10 shades of delicious colours from light golden hints, autumnal shades or dark berries. A real hint of colour which is perfect for that colour wash we all need on a day to day basis to really make eye colours stand out. I think applying the tints with the fingertips works great or mixing with normal eyeshadows to create a modern looking glow to a usually matte lid.
It’s worth mentioning not only are these products great and I am excited to dip into them again in the future, but that they are all vegan, paraben free and made from organic ingredients like coconut oil or shea butter. Go and check out the colours, you will be spoilt for choice! My personal favourites are the Scarlet on the cheeks and Ruby for the lids.
Enjoy, Jo x
